Where the Road Ends and Island Time Begins: Key West

The weather forecast for the week in Jacksonville did not fit our definition of warmth and sunshine!  So we decided to head south, as far south as we could go. And that meant Key West, Florida!  Key West is a vibe.  The weather was perfect and it wasn’t crowded.  We would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a low key tropical escape within the US. In Search of Sun

Over thirty years of marriage we’ve had endless conversations about whether we like winter or summer better. For most of our adult lives we lived in Kansas City, where the winters are unbearably cold and the summers are unbearably hot. By the end of July you are longing for snow. And in February you can’t wait to sweat. Now that we are homeless, we can decide exactly what kind of weather we want! So as we planned our 2026 and early 2027 itineraries, it all focused around seeking sun and 60-80 degrees. And note…we left our cold weather clothes behind in Kansas last month, so it better be warm!

Paris, je t’aime

I’ll admit it. The first time I went to Paris in February 2013 I was not in love with the city. I had romanticized the city in my mind. It was cold, dark, and we were overwhelmed by the language barrier and the feeling that we were rushing around trying to check things off our tourist list. I left disappointed and confused. Where was the Paris of my dreams? When we returned again in July of 2023 I fell deeply in love with the city. What I’ve realized is that Paris is much more than checking sites off a list. It is a feeling. Paris has a soul. And you can’t quite appreciate that soul until you slow down and soak it all in.
